Theory to Practice Thursday: English Language Learners
Nevada is a member of the WiDA consortium, a collection of 37 state departments of education that design and implement English language proficiency standards, assessment, and professional development. In Clark County, around one-third of students are classified as English Language Learners. This does not include other Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students.
As educators in Clark County, it is our responsibility to ensure that we are equipped to meet the needs of English Language Learners. WiDA has identified 15 practices to ensure that students are developing the academic vocabulary necessary to be successful in higher education.
